Inside the Maybach Ocean Club, the World’s Most Exclusive Address at Sea

Luxury has always had a way of evolving. Once it meant ownership – a private jet, a sprawling estate, a gleaming superyacht anchored in Monaco. Today, for a new generation of global tastemakers, it increasingly means something subtler: access, experience, and the rare pleasure of sharing extraordinary moments with equally extraordinary company.

Enter the Maybach Ocean Club, a concept poised to reshape the very idea of yachting. The club introduces the world’s first private superyacht membership, extending the unmistakable elegance of Mercedes-Maybach from road to ocean.

Developed by Splendid Sea AG in partnership with Mercedes-Benz, the initiative merges aspirational design with a quietly radical premise: experience the joys of a superyacht, without the responsibilities of owning one.

The Maybach name has long carried the weight of refined prestige. But its maritime story predates even its most famous automobiles. In the 1920s, visionary engineer Wilhelm Maybach and his contemporaries developed engines that powered early motorboats, aircraft, and automobiles, laying the technical foundations for luxury mobility across land, air, and sea.

The Maybach Ocean Club revives that spirit of innovation, merging heritage with a modern philosophy of travel. “We saw an opportunity to create a new model that enhances the joys of yachting without the burden of management and maintenance,” says co-founder Michael Hehn. “It speaks to something timeless – sharing special places and experiences with people who matter most.”

The centrepiece of the club is its inaugural vessel, Beyond Horizons, a 155-metre superyacht scheduled to set sail in 2029. Designed in collaboration with the Mercedes-Benz design team led by Gorden Wagener, the yacht translates the aesthetic DNA of Maybach into a floating architectural statement.

Its proportions echo those of the brand’s flagship vehicles, long, elegant, and sculptural. The dramatic bow evokes the presence of a Maybach grille, while sweeping surfaces and a tapering stern lend the yacht an unmistakable automotive grace.

“Yachts have always been the ultimate expression of prestige, power and luxury,” Wagener notes. “Our aim was to create something truly iconic – a new dimension of beauty brought to the water.”

Inside, the philosophy that has guided Maybach since its inception – the very best of the very best – is palpable.

The yacht houses 30 residential suites, each a generous 74 square metres with private balconies and uninterrupted ocean views. In a deliberate break from traditional yacht design, every suite is identical in size, ensuring each member enjoys precisely the same level of comfort.

Six additional guest suites welcome family and friends, while interiors draw inspiration from Maybach’s signature palette: warm metallic accents, soft cream tones, and tactile materials that feel as indulgent as they look.

The Ocean Club is designed for a carefully curated community of around 300 members worldwide. Each member receives guaranteed access to the yacht for four weeks per year, with suite allocation rotating between stays.

The effect is closer to a private members’ club than a typical yacht charter. Guests arrive not as strangers, but as part of an evolving social circle, one united by a shared appreciation for travel, culture, and life lived beautifully.

For co-founder Matthias Bosse, that sense of community is the true luxury. “More than a vessel, the heart of the Maybach Ocean Club is the private circle of friends that will come together through shared experiences,” he explains. “Whether sailing to St. Barths or Sardinia, every journey is about building memories and lasting friendships.”

Life onboard blends the intimacy of a private yacht with the amenities of a world-class resort. A 1.3-to-1 crew-to-member ratio ensures highly personalised service, while facilities encourage both relaxation and connection. There is a sprawling Beach Club with direct sea access and cabanas, a serene spa with treatment rooms and sauna, and a fully equipped fitness centre complete with yoga studio and personal trainers.

Dining evolves with each voyage thanks to rotating culinary residencies, where acclaimed chefs reinterpret global cuisines against the backdrop of the open sea.

Then, of course, there are the toys. Jet skis, sea bobs, paddleboards, kayaks, and snorkelling gear accompany the yacht, along with limousine tenders for stylish arrivals ashore. A helicopter – based on a discreet support vessel – stands ready for private excursions.

From mid-spring to autumn, the yacht will cruise the Mediterranean, visiting glamorous ports from the Côte d’Azur to Portofino, Sardinia, and St. Tropez. Winter months shift the scenery to warmer waters across Central America and the Caribbean.

Voyages align with cultural highlights such as the Monaco Grand Prix and the Cannes Film Festival, while concierge-curated excursions offer everything from helicopter adventures to private island dinners.

Even within the rarefied world of superyachts, sustainability is becoming essential. Beyond Horizons is equipped with next-generation engines capable of running on green methanol or biodiesel, significantly reducing emissions compared to traditional marine fuels.

The shared-access model itself also improves efficiency – one thoughtfully operated yacht replacing the environmental footprint of multiple privately owned vessels.

Membership is by application only, reinforcing the club’s vision of a carefully balanced community. It’s less about exclusivity for its own sake and more about curating a group of individuals who genuinely enjoy exploring the world together.

After all, the greatest luxury voyage is rarely defined by the destination alone. It’s the people at the table when the sun sets over the water, the stories exchanged somewhere between Monaco and the Caribbean, and the friendships that linger long after the yacht returns to port.

And in that sense, the Maybach Ocean Club may be offering something rarer than a superyacht. It’s offering a world, reserved for a remarkable few, where the horizon is always just the beginning.
