Luxury family travel has entered a new era, one where children's experiences are considered every bit as thoughtfully as those designed for adults. This summer, Velaa Private Island Maldives is embracing that philosophy through an exclusive partnership with acclaimed British experiential events company Sharky + George, introducing a week-long programme that places the science of play at the heart of an unforgettable island escape.

Taking place from 3–9 August 2026, Velaa Kids Week will transform the private island into an immersive world of adventure, creativity and discovery for children aged four and above. Set against the pristine backdrop of the Noonu Atoll, the programme combines Velaa's signature approach to exceptional hospitality with Sharky + George's research-led philosophy, creating what is set to become one of luxury travel's most innovative family experiences.
Rather than offering conventional children's entertainment, every day has been designed around unlocking a different "superpower". From Curiosity and Rhythm to Focus, Energy, Strategy and Connection, young guests will develop practical skills through imaginative, hands-on experiences before putting everything into practice during the Ultimate Challenge, an Olympic-style finale on the programme's final day.
Founded more than two decades ago, Sharky + George has become one of Britain's leading names in experiential children's entertainment, creating bespoke programmes for organisations including Goldman Sachs, Advent International and events at 10 Downing Street. Their latest white paper, The Transformational Power of Play, builds on over 20 years of experience and draws upon neuroscience and developmental psychology to argue that play is not simply recreation, it is fundamental to children's emotional, social and cognitive development.
The research identifies three core outcomes of purposeful play: Ingenuity, encouraging creative and flexible thinking; Belonging, fostering empathy, trust and psychological safety; and Vitality, nurturing resilience, energy and joy.
As George Whitefield, Founder of Sharky + George, explains: "Play is not a distraction from serious work, but a catalyst for it. The spark it brings, a feeling of possibility, belonging, and pure, unfiltered joy, is just as vital for children as the air they breathe."
Central to the company's philosophy are three essential ingredients that make play truly transformative: Space, where hierarchy and judgement disappear; Connection, built through spontaneous, in-person interaction; and Flow, where challenge and skill are perfectly balanced. These principles underpin every experience throughout Velaa Kids Week.
Across seven days, children will take part in eight themed sessions inspired by the island itself. Mornings begin with activities designed to spark curiosity and confidence, from explosive science experiments to yoga, breathwork and slow bike races that develop focus and balance. Nature also plays a leading role, with scavenger hunts and bug hotel building encouraging teamwork and deeper connections with the environment.
Afternoons shift towards creativity and energetic play, with candle painting, free-flow art and performance workshops sitting alongside exhilarating water-based challenges, including slip 'n' slides and waterbomb catapults. Evenings continue the adventure with a Logic-themed interactive gameshow inspired by classic television formats before ending with an Expression-themed UV Disco complete with neon face painting and freestyle dance.

Adding another memorable dimension to the programme, world champion freestyle footballer Tobias Becs will join the island as a special guest, leading interactive football sessions that promise to inspire young guests throughout the week.
The collaboration reflects a broader shift in luxury family travel. Increasingly, affluent parents are seeking experiences that extend beyond childcare or entertainment, looking instead for holidays that contribute meaningfully to their children's personal development. Programmes rooted in creativity, confidence-building and experiential learning have become just as desirable as exceptional accommodation or world-class dining.
For Velaa Private Island, the partnership reinforces its commitment to creating extraordinary experiences for every member of the family.
