Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Fife coastline and overlooking the world-famous Old Course, the Old Course Hotel is one of Europe’s most celebrated luxury destinations. A member of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts Legend Collection, the hotel features 175 elegantly appointed rooms, including 34 suites, alongside the award-winning Kohler Waters Spa, five dining venues, and a wealth of leisure activities.

The hotel has announced the reopening of its Kohler Waters Spa following a transformative five-month renovation, redefining it as Scotland’s premier destination for contrast therapy and restorative wellness. Recently crowned Scottish Spa of the Year 2024 by The Times 50 Best UK Spa Guide, the spa emerges reimagined – blending innovation with the soul-soothing Scottish art of Coorie: the pursuit of warmth, comfort, and sanctuary after moments of bracing exposure to the elements.

At the heart of the transformation is Scotland’s most advanced contrast therapy experience, anchored by a spectacular new KLAFS-designed snow and sauna cabin. Guests are invited to move between enveloping warmth and invigorating cold — a ritual scientifically proven to boost circulation, reduce inflammation, and enhance mood. The spa’s new interiors echo this dance between energy and calm, with soft lighting, cocooning textures, and tranquil relaxation zones offering a sense of deep retreat and restoration.

“Our spa transformation embodies both the invigorating and nurturing sides of Scottish wellness,” says Phyllis Wilkie, General Manager of the Old Course Hotel. “The concept of Coorie lies at the heart of this renewal — a balance between the refreshing power of cold therapy and the comforting sanctuary that follows. We’re offering guests a complete wellness journey: one that celebrates challenge and indulgence in perfect harmony.”

The thermal suite now features an enhanced hydrotherapy circuit and the UK’s first Espuro Foam Experience Steam Room, designed to stimulate the senses while promoting relaxation. These innovations sit alongside calming lounges dressed in soft furnishings, with soothing teas and a tranquil ambience, inviting guests to linger long after their treatment.

The new treatment menu introduces a curated collection of skincare partners — Omorovicza, GROUND, Margaret Dabbs and Phytomer — each chosen for their performance-led formulations and alignment with the spa’s nature-driven and sustainable ethos. Treatments are designed to ground, revive, and restore, tailored to individual wellbeing journeys.

Building upon the spa’s new chapter, Old Course Hotel is collaborating with renowned wellness expert Anna Deacon, author of Taking the Plunge and advocate for cold-water wellbeing. Together, they will launch a bespoke series of seasonal retreats that extend the spa’s ethos beyond its walls.

The inaugural Step into Summer Retreat debuts on Saturday, 2 May 2026, featuring special guest Louise Minchin — celebrated broadcaster, endurance athlete, and author — who will join Anna Deacon for an evening of conversation and dinner exploring resilience, balance, and the joy of movement. Guests will experience guided contrast therapy sessions within the new KLAFS facilities, complemented by cold-water swimming, mindful yoga, meditation, and creative photography workshops designed to reconnect body and mind.

The seasonal wellness retreats will continue throughout 2026, each curated to reflect the natural rhythms of the year and Old Course Hotel’s commitment to active wellbeing.
