A perfect pairing - Schrader Cellars joins the Savoy Grill's Wine Room

Embarking on a journey through the world of wine is always an enchanting experience, but when it involves a wine-tasting event at The Savoy Grill's Wine Room, it becomes an extraordinary celebration of luxury, exclusivity, and impeccable taste. Having attended an event with Schrader Cellars on February 13th, I can wholeheartedly attest that this is an experience worth savouring, and one I cannot recommend enough.

The Savoy Wine Room

Jason Smith, the head sommelier at Schrader Cellars, brought the essence of Napa Valley to London, presenting an exquisite selection of wines in the enchanting Wine Room. This hidden gem, nestled within The Savoy Grill's dining room, is a haven for wine enthusiasts, offering an intimate setting that effortlessly combines the grandeur of the main room with an enticing sense of seclusion.

The Wine Experience room at The Savoy Grill provided the perfect backdrop for this exceptional tasting. Overseen by Emanuel Pesqueira, the Group Head of Wine at Gordon Ramsay Restaurants, and Restaurant Director Thierry Tomasin, this private room offers a bespoke wine-tasting experience unlike any other in London.

Schrader Cellars, situated in the heart of Napa Valley, is dedicated to crafting single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignons from the most revered vineyards in the region. What sets Schrader apart is their unwavering pursuit of perfection, focusing on low-yield, old-vine vineyards that showcase the unique terroir of Napa Valley.

During the event, Jason Smith masterfully guided guests through an exploration of Schrader's portfolio and the unique terroir of Napa Valley was brought to life, creating a sensory journey that captivated the palate all accompanied by a bespoke tasting menu crafted by the Savoy Grill culinary team.

The flexibility of The Wine Experience room allows for a tailor-made journey, curated entirely to guests' desires. The team has curated a series of wine dinners throughout 2024, featuring producers and industry experts. These immersive dinners, starting with Angelus on February 27th, followed by Silver Oak on March 6th and Kistler on April 9th, promise an unforgettable experience.

The wine room is also available for the public to book independently of these events. The Grill team will work closely with guests to design and facilitate their fantasies, with the menu from all three of the Savoy’s restaurants available.

“In here, there are no limits: you tell us what you would like to eat, and the wine you wish to drink, and my mission is to find the wine for you,” explains Pesqueira. “This is a room of dreams. We offer world-class service and the wow factor; you will leave wondering how it was even possible. For oenophiles and simply anyone who wants a beautiful, one-off experience, this can become a home away from home.”

The glimmering and low-lit Wine Room contains hundreds of rare and fine vintages, and Pesqueira, Tomasin and the team of sommeliers are available and on hand to advise guests as requested, with tasting notes and explanations offered both before and during a booking. Bottles include verticals of Château Lafite Rothschild dating from 1981, muscat from the 1961 and 1962 vintages, several hard-to-find wines from Domaine de la Romanée Conti — often considered the most prestigious wine in the world — and Madeira dating back to 1705. The Grill team also make frequent use of the Coravin, meaning rare wines can be experienced by the glass as well as by the bottle.

As several wine-tasting events continue at The Savoy Grill's Wine Room throughout the year, each promises a unique encounter with some of the most sought-after wines. The upcoming events, featuring producers like Angelus, Silver Oak, and Kistler, are an opportunity not only to savour exceptional wines but also to engage with the passionate individuals behind them.
