The Berkeley - New hideaway ‘The Garden at The Berkeley' opens to great fanfare

by Alexandra Hoffman

The Berkeley has revealed its newest secret little culinary spot. This intimate and informal Mediterranean-style alfresco restaurant offers stylish outdoor dining, lit with lanterns, festoon lights and candles; diners are reminded of the balmy nights of European escapes. Olive trees and lavender aroma soothe the senses as diners enjoy a glass of rosé or a pitcher of peach wine.

With its daily changing menu showcasing the freshest ingredients, The Garden at The Berkeley offers perfect summertime dining, suggesting a convivial, sharing plate style. The smell of warm sourdough with confit garlic and charred vine tomatoes – a signature touch – welcomes the hungry guest. Dishes include giant charred prawns; T-bone steak with smoked shallot butter and chimichurri; grilled sardines with lemon and rock salt; and roast cauliflower with smoked almond puree. Charred octopus with lemon and garlic saffron aioli; and grilled rack of lamb also feature on the menu – all cooked outside on Green Egg barbecues. With a wide selection of updated outdoor favourites, the Garden at The Berkeley offers the perfect menu for the discerning foodie.

A variety of garden pitchers await the thirsty diner and their entourage – ‘The Berkeley Cup’ is a blend of rum, Pimm’s, cassis and ginger beer finished with cucumber and strawberries; whilst ‘Peach Wine’ is a delicious mix of rosé, peach and elderflower liqueur with lime. For those seeking a more select cocktail, The Garden is overlooked by The Berkeley Bar with its intimate terrace, which is open to guests, serving classic cocktails and fine wines – the perfect pre or post dinner drink. Sophisticated cocktails and upscale libations stimulate the appetite and excite the senses.

Commenting on the unveil, Knut Wylde, The Berkeley’s General Manager, says, ‘The Garden at The Berkeley gives Londoners exactly what they have been longing for after months of lockdown and cooking at home – simple and delicious food, a relaxed style of service and a magical setting that we hope transports you to European summer evenings. And, dare I say, a little glimmer of normality.’

For the sophisticated Epicurean looking to reconnect and enjoy fine dining outdoors, The Garden at The Berkeley offers delicious food, well-mixed drinks, and superior service. Plan an urban dining escape and enjoy the perfect post-lockdown tonic.
