Rosewood London’s Terrace: A Little Slice of La Dolce Vita in Holborn

There are few things more alluring than the promise of somewhere secret in the middle of London. Rosewood London has transformed its handsome courtyard into just that: a Mediterranean-inspired hideaway where the mood is languid, the cocktails are icy, and lunch has every intention of becoming dinner.

Created in collaboration with Dinner for One Hundred, Rosewood London’s Terrace transforms the hotel’s iconic courtyard into an elegant hidden piazza: part European summer escape, part sophisticated London dining room without the ceiling. It is the sort of place that encourages you to linger, preferably with nowhere urgent to be.

At the centre of the courtyard, a bespoke Gozney oven provides the theatrical focal point, with Dinner for One Hundred cooking its signature pizzas throughout the summer residency. The result is relaxed rather than rustic, elevated without becoming overly formal.

We began with carabineros, the prized deep-red prawns served with chilli and garlic butter and, naturally, bread for mopping up every last drop. Rich, sweet and unapologetically indulgent, they arrive with precisely the sort of sauce that makes table manners feel negotiable. The seafood-forward opening set the tone nicely for what followed.

The MacGyver pizza, tomato, fior di latte, chorizo, hot honey, whipped feta and crushed fennel seeds, is the kind of combination that sounds like it shouldn't work quite as beautifully as it does. The sweetness of the hot honey plays against the salty chorizo and creamy feta, while fennel brings an aromatic lift.

From Holborn Dining Room came the lobster linguine, dressed with garlic, chilli and a deeply savoury shellfish bisque. The pasta has the luxurious richness one hopes for from lobster, tempered by chilli and lifted by garlic.

Dessert arrived in the form of vanilla panna cotta with strawberries and pistachio. Silken and delicately flavoured, it provided a graceful finale, with the strawberries bringing freshness and the pistachio adding texture. Understated, but no less satisfying for it.

Drinks are very much part of the Terrace's appeal. The cocktail list embraces the rituals of summer with offerings made using GREY GOOSE vodka, PATRÓN tequila and ST-GERMAIN elderflower liqueur. The St-Germain Spritz is an obvious aperitivo companion, while the Gin Basil Smash leans into the herbaceous side of summer.

For those remaining in the capital this summer, Rosewood London’s Terrace offers the next best thing to escaping it. Come for the pizza, stay for the spritz, order the lobster linguine and allow several hours to disappear. After all, the best European summer dinners have never been particularly good at keeping time.
