Jamavar launches Mount Street Terrace for the summer season

Jamavar, the much-loved Indian restaurant in Mayfair, co-founded by Samyukta Nair and her father Dinesh, has launched its new summer terrace. Set in the heart of Mount Street with its beautiful Queen Anne revival style architecture, amongst neighbours Balenciaga, Christopher Kane and James Purdey, the terrace looks out onto Tadao Ando’s water feature ‘silence’. Enclosed with box hedging and period railings, then covered with a grand mustard yellow awning, the terrace has seats for just 8 guests accompanied by heaters and soft throws to keep away the chills on those cooler summer nights.

Led by Culinary Director Surender Mohan, the new terrace menu will showcase his love of dishes from both the Royal kitchens of Northern India and the coastal cuisine from the Southern states, exploring pan-Indian flavours and authentic cooking techniques. Surender will welcome back diners with dishes including; Indica Salad with poached pear, asparagus, kale and kokum dressing; Kathal Bhel made of jackfruit cutlets, puffed rice & date-tamarind chutney and Bhatti Ka Octopus with black pepper, coriander seeds, Kashmiri red chilli & southern corn salad. Elsewhere on the à la carte menu, guests can expect new plates including Murgh Aloo, a home style chicken curry with potatoes, and Malvani Prawn Curry with Jamavar’s own Malvan spice mix made in-house, alongside their signature tandoor dishes, biryanis and array of sides.

Ending on a sweet note, a light pistachio milk cake with cream cheese, vanilla & rose petals will join the line-up of desserts alongside the sticky Gulab Jamun soaked in fragrant rose syrup and Surender’s take on a popular, traditional Indian ice cream dessert of Rhubarb Chuski Falooda.

There will be new cocktails too, including Oriente which combines cardamom spiced gin, green apple, organic honey & Assam tea shrub; and Rumani with coconut washed Anejo rum, orange liqueur & guava muddled with mint & curry leaves, perfect for long summer evenings on the terrace.

Samyukta Nair says: “After a tumultuous 12 months, my team and I cannot wait to launch The Jamavar Terrace. Surender and I have all been working hard throughout lockdown - developing new ideas and dishes for the year ahead, and we are longing to welcome back our patrons to enjoy our new additions alongside classic favourites.”
