Don Papa unveils Rye Aged Rum, a new Super Premium limited edition

Don Papa Rum, the premium small batch rum from the island of Negros in the Philippines, is set to launch its newest expression, Rye Aged Rum – a limited edition, super premium rum celebrating the unique story of American Rye and Philippine Sugar.

Aged for four years in American rye casks at the foothills of Mt. Kanlaon on the mystical and fertile island of Sugarlandia, the Rye Aged Rum is wonderfully vibrant and fruity on the nose with spicy notes of cracked black pepper, rich salted caramel and a touch of fresh mint and cedarwood. Deep, intense and velvety to taste, and the colour of golden straw, this distinctive liquid has a delicate, smooth finish, with lasting impressions of lingering, warming spices and dark chocolate.

“Imagine a green, lush rye field on a beautiful Tennessee spring day merging with a warm tropical shower blowing in from the Philippine sea,” says Stephen Carroll, owner of Don Papa. “This is the backdrop for Don Papa Rye Aged Rum — combining the intense granular spice notes of American Rye barrels and our very own black gold molasses rum, resulting in a beautifully balanced, silky smooth and complex new rum.”

Don Papa’s Rye Aged Rum, bottled at 45% ABV, celebrates the blending of two unique cultures. Though the Philippines endured Spanish occupation for over three centuries, the truly lasting influence on modern Filipino culture has been very much American. Almost immediately after the War for Independence, the Americans introduced Filipinos to automobiles, ice, Hollywood, Art Deco, and American song & dance. This magical combination of glitz, glamour, and business only heightened Filipinos’ desires to build a world as equally stunning as that of the Americans'. The height of this era coincided with the Negrense sugar boom of the 1920s and a new era of rum production.

The Rye Aged Rum is presented in an intricately detailed prohibition-inspired design, reflecting aspects of the gritty era of hidden speakeasies, the lush jungle landscape of Sugarlandia and the irreverence of Papa Isio’s story, the revolutionary hero who inspired the Don Papa name.

The new Rye Aged Rum brings another dimension to the Don Papa drinking experience with its growing portfolio including the original Don Papa 7-year-old, Don Papa 10, Rare Cask, Sherry Cask and the Sevillana Cask Finish.

Don Papa Rye Aged Rum (70cl) will be distributed in all 28 of the markets in which Don Papa Rum is available across Europe, Asia, North America and South Africa.
