Celebrity hair stylist Paul Edmonds' fabulous Knightsbridge salon

By Christina Raptis

As every woman will know, there is perhaps nothing more daunting than changing hairdressers. It was thus, with trepidation, that I approached the Georgian inspired town house - a perfect combination of impeccable English sophistication with fashion forward urban chic - that is home to award-winning hairdresser, Paul Edmonds.

Paul Edmonds

Internationally renowned hair stylist Paul Edmonds is an authority within the hair industry and unbeknown to most, he is the visionary and talent behind some of the most iconic hair transformations seen in film and television over the last 30 years. As well as creating timeless red carpet styles and every day cuts in his luxurious Knightsbridge and Battersea salons, Paul’s regular client roster is like a walk along the ‘Hollywood walk of Fame' and includes; Emma Thompson, Julie Walters and Margot Robbie as well as breakthrough British talent Eleanor Tomlinson, Emily Berrington and Ophelia Lovibond.

Blockbuster movies he’s helped with include; Mission Impossible 6, The Legend of Tarzan and The Theory of Everything, to name a few! He is also a voting member of BAFTA and his relationship with the Academy is time honoured. Paul is devoted to the arts and his announcement as the Official Hair Partner of the EE British Academy Film Awards in 2018 was a natural partnership.

Add to the list - little old me!

Prior to just cutting/colouring your hair, the experience involves a consultation where their experts discuss your specific needs and offer advice. As I arrived for a consultation I was greeted with a warm welcome, escorted downstairs and introduced to my colourist Joe who listened to my wish-list of hair needs. After a brief conversation he suggested the best colour to suit me.

We decided to go for a natural, sun-kissed colour best achieved through Balayage. Originating from France in the 1970s, the freehand highlighting technique is where the colour is applied by hand rather than using foiling or cap techniques. The dye is painted onto the hair to build soft contrast into the hair and create a gradual gentle effect from root to tip. The idea behind Balayage is to create a natural and multi-toned finish, using patches of lighter colour to create multiple dimensions of colour. Next, I was introduced to my stylist Stephanie who examined my hair, and discussed the length and style I wanted to achieve. Consultation complete, I was booked in for my appointment a few days later.

Upon arrival for my appointment, I was once again warmly greeted before being seated at my chair. A few minutes later, a smiling Joe was back and began meticulously painting each strand of my hair. After an hour I was ready to rinse in the salon’s luxurious hair washing area which was ideal as it is fitted with massaging chairs. Joe used a selection of Kerastase products to nourish and revitalise my hair.

Once rinsed, I headed downstairs to let Stephanie work her magic in creating my new look. After my fabulous cut, she styled my hair with Hollywood glam waves which really gave my hair the wow factor. My hair had been given a fresh boost of blonde throughout and looked natural and healthy. I was elated!

To complement their hairdressing offering they provide an exclusive Shu Uemura ritual room and sleek Kerastase hair spa, as well as opulent private rooms designed by Brahm offering mani and pedis, facials and more - something for next time!

Paul Edmonds offers a personalised, intimate, and bespoke hairdressing experience. The salon’s in-house trained stylists and colourists spend time to create the optimum tailored experience for every client. The Knightsbridge salon is setting a new standard for discrete style, exclusivity, and convenience. All my initial concerns of visiting a new hairdresser were allayed and I shall definitely return soon.
