Celebrate World Sake Day at Dinings SW3
This October, Japanese restaurant Dinings SW3 in Chelsea will mark World Sake Day with two intimate tasting experiences dedicated to the craftsmanship, heritage and diversity of Japan’s national drink.
Celebrated annually on 1st October, World Sake Day traditionally marks the beginning of Japan’s sake brewing season, coinciding with the autumn rice harvest and the start of a new brewing year.

With Japanese tradition at the heart of Dinings SW3, the Chelsea restaurant will celebrate with two special evenings at its bar, each limited to just 14 guests and combining guided sake tastings with seasonal dishes from the Dinings SW3 kitchen.
On World Sake Day itself, Dinings SW3 will welcome Erika Haigh, founder of Mai Sake, for an intimate masterclass exploring the fascinating world of artisan Japanese sake. Mai Sake was established to champion premium and artisan sake producers, sourcing bottles from carefully selected breweries across Japan.

Guests will begin the evening with a glass of sparkling rosé sake before Erika guides them through a tasting of four specially selected sakes, discussing their origins, individual characteristics and the craftsmanship behind each bottle. The selection will include Dinings SW3’s own sake, with Erika sharing the story behind its creation and why each sake has been chosen for the evening.
The tasting will be accompanied by a selection of light bites from the Dinings SW3 kitchen, using seasonal and sustainably sourced ingredients selected to complement the different sake styles.

The celebrations continue with Dinings SW3 welcoming Hugo Chan of Masumi Brewery, one of Japan’s historic sake breweries. Founded in 1662, Masumi has been producing sake for more than 360 years, with generations of craftsmanship and precision informing its approach today.
Hugo will guide just 14 guests through four Masumi sakes, offering an introduction to the traditions, techniques and complexities behind sake production and the individual character of each expression. The four sakes will once again be accompanied by seasonal light bites from the Dinings SW3 kitchen.
Together, the two evenings offer Londoners an opportunity to go beyond simply drinking sake and discover more about its history, production and extraordinary diversity, all within the intimate surroundings of Dinings SW3 in Chelsea.
