There's nothing more quintessentially British than partaking in Afternoon Tea. This unique British tradition can only be enhanced by enjoying it in the heart of fashionable Knightsbridge - the most British of addresses which Harrods chooses to call home.
However, as Epicureans we love a little creativeness on our culinary adventures and thus were truly thankful to receive an invitation to the fabulously decadent Bulgari Hotel who have taken the traditional British Afternoon Tea and added an Italian twist! Any visit to the under-the-radar but always elegant Bulgari Hotel is always a treat but the thought of an Italian-inspired Afternoon Tea with a glass of Champagne had us anticipating la dolce vita.
Reimagining traditional Afternoon Tea with a focus on Italian ingredients, Bulgari Hotel London’s new experience begins with a Berry and Hibiscus Canton Tea ‘Acqua Fresca’ along with a delicate Amuse Bouche, before presenting a carefully curated selection of Italian savoury delicacies and pastries. In a contemporary twist on scones, guests will be served Cornish clotted cream ice cream from a bespoke Bulgari cart to accompany fresh scones, as well as the option of traditional scones and cream.
Served on chic flower patterned porcelain Richard Ginori tableware, savoury delicacies celebrate favourite Italian ingredients such as Bassano white asparagus, burrata, Umbrian truffle and Italian bakery from zesty Amalfi lemon bread, and stracchino focaccia to bruschetta. Pastries by resident pastry chef Gianluca Fusto offer a selection of Italian sweet treats including ‘soft Florence Millot chocolate and Tuscan wood roasted peanut cake’; and a ‘millefoglie of Ispica sesame seeds, vanilla cream and Amarena Cherry gel’.
The new Afternoon Tea comes in the year the hotel marks its 10th anniversary in London and follows the unveiling of The Bulgari Lounge’s recently refreshed interiors. The Lounge’s new design inspired by the brands heritage as the master of coloured gems remains inherently Bulgari, and offers elegant all-day dining in the comfort and glamour of an Italian-style "living room". Welcoming and intimate, with a cosy fireplace for cooler days, The Bulgari Lounge makes the perfect spot to experience the new Afternoon Tea.
Another thing we loved about the Afternoon Tea was its exclusivity as you are one of only a very small number of tables to enjoy the experience. Another benefit of course, if you should so feel inclined, and reserve accordingly, is after gorging on their fabulous Tea you can saunter downstairs to their luxurious and award-winning spa for a treatment, massage, or a much-needed siesta - Bellissima!
