Resident chef of the luxury country house hotel, Northcote Manor, chef Nigel Haworth, has launched his new home-dining experience, Haworth @ Home. Chef Haworth who has held a Michelin star for over 20 years and is also known for his flagship 'Obsession' culinary event, has drawn on his Lancastrian heritage and love of sustainable British produce to exclusively design and prepare decadent meals delivered nationwide for you to cook at home.
To create the new menus, Nigel, a former Egon Ronay Chef of the Year award winner, sources the finest sustainable British produce to ensure the best flavour and integrity of each dish. Nigel Haworth adds, “Once the magic has happened in our kitchen, each dish will be packed and delivered to homes around the UK, requiring the simplest cooking before plating, serving and enjoying.”
A multi award-winning chef Nigel Haworth has been a regular face on our TV screens for many years. Nigel has starred in many culinary shows including the BBC’s Great British Menu where he went from contestant to one of the show’s most popular judges.
“Like so many, there is nothing I love more on Valentine’s Day than going to a good restaurant, so what better time to launch our new Haworth @ Home boxes to bring great restaurant food into people’s homes,” said Nigel Haworth. “My career has been dedicated to tracking down the best ingredients from sustainable British producers, something that will be at the heart of all our ‘@ Home’ experiences.”
We were lucky to be invited to try Nigel's Valentine’s Day menu. The boxes arrived on the morning of the requested day filled with all the necessary ingredients to create a show-stopping dinner. One cannot help but feel excited as the box is delivered and you eagerly unpack the contents which were all individually wrapped and labelled for ease of cooking.
Unlike most cook-at-home experiences we have tried, which you simply heat (microwave), Nigel's require a minimal amount of cooking which only adds to the experience of creating your own culinary masterpiece and thus the food is freshly prepared! Each dish comes with simple and easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions and even offers plating advice which ensures that even the novice cook can create something that truly has the wow-factor.
To begin, we popped the the sourdough bread in the oven and in 6 minutes it came out bakery fresh, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. We enjoyed this with the provided caramelised onion butter and butter bean hummus - yum!
To start, our first course was a Wellgate salmon loin wrapped in butter puff-pastry accompanied by smoked leeks, caviar cream and pickled cucumber. This needed to be brushed with egg wash and baked in the oven for 12 minutes. Once golden and crispy we plated it as per the instructions and wow did it look super professional!
The main course for our special evening was a truffled herb-fed free-range chicken breast with perigord truffle butter, braised leg meat, hen of the woods mushrooms, and red Emilie potatoes - a truly decadent dish that normally you would only enjoy at a Michelin-starred restaurant, let alone cook at home!
The grand finale to end our spectacular evening of culinary delights was the rhubarb and rosewater meringue with white chocolate and blood orange dessert - a real showstopper.
For those who might be apprehensive about cooking-at-home menus, we agree with Chef Nigel when he says that he's... “ created the new experience to deliver gourmet food whilst taking the fuss out of the preparation. and wants everyone to be able to enjoy them, no matter what their cooking talent.” In support of the wider hospitality industry, Haworth @ Home will also be making a donation to Hospitality Action for every box sold. Mark Lewis, Chief Executive of Hospitality Action, said; “Hospitality is helping to put food on the table for thousands of hospitality households. But we can only continue our work thanks to the fundraising support of wonderful people like Nigel, who we’re proud to have as a patron of our charity”.
