Shakti River House in Ladakh

The Shakti River House in Ladakh is perfectly situated on the banks of the mighty Indus River and surrounded by rich green floodplains. Guests can take in breath-taking views of the Stakna, Matho and Thiksey monasteries along with the picturesque sights of the Stok Kangri mountain range. This house is the prime example of mountain living in addition to representing Shakti Himalaya’s commitment to rescuing dilapidated homes in this remote region. Saved from near ruin and restored in an authentic Ladakhi style, the house is minimalist yet sophisticated in style, using local woods, natural materials, and Buddhist iconography. The neutral colour palette allows guests to focus on the magnificent views outside. Opulent bedrooms provide a comfortable atmosphere featuring superb mattresses, fine cotton sheets and fluffy duvets. Bathrooms contain soothing bath products, perfect for the dry Ladakhi climate.

Learn the culture of Ladakh, its people, religion and customers from local porters and guides as you walk between villages, temples and monasteries. The walks are the perfect antidote to the frenetic world that most of us live in and can be completely tailored to suit the pace and fitness of the traveller. Guests also have the opportunity to camp in beautiful locations to spend a night under the stars. For those seeking adventure, Shakti also offers river rafting on the Indus and Zanskar rivers. _____________________________________________________________________________________
