A dime a dozen! That could be the best way of describing the abundance of 4 wheel drive or SUVs on the roads today! Every marque now produces a luxury 4x4 be it Rolls Royce, Mercedes, VW or Ford. But – like everything else - someone had to lead the way. And when it comes to the luxury SUV market it was, of course, Land Rover. And as they begin celebrations of their Golden Anniversary, the company that 50 years ago pioneered a trend continues to be the most desirable and technologically advanced benchmark for all others to follow.
The original Range Rover was the four-wheel drive SUV that introduced the world to safety features that we now take for granted. These include: anti-lock brakes, electronic Traction Control and Automatic Electronic Air Suspension while the 2012 Range Rover pioneered aluminium body architecture in large SUVs. In 2015, the Range Rover was the first vehicle to be fitted with Land Rover’s innovative All-Terrain Progress Control – now available across the entire Land Rover line-up.
The luxurious Range Rover family will mark 50 years of pioneering innovation and peerless refinement this June, on the anniversary of the introduction of the two-door Range Rover in 1970. Since then, the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Velar have expanded the family into a four-strong line-up of the world’s most desirable and advanced SUVs.
To mark the 50th anniversary Land Rover has numerous celebrations planned over the year. To begin they took World Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua OBE to a snow art installation at its Arjeplog cold weather test facility in Sweden.
Arjeplog is also home to the Jaguar Land Rover Ice Academy, where customers experience the thrill of dynamic ice driving, under careful instruction from world-class driving experts. World heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua OBE experienced the extreme conditions as part of the celebrations, where he learned the art of winter driving under the expert supervision of Academy instructors.
The Land Rover range boasts four top-of-the-range SUVs on the market which are the:
Range Rover SVAutobiography – Long-wheelbase pinnacle of the family is the most elegant and refined Range Rover ever, mixing airline-style Executive Seats and power-close rear doors with a choice of engines that includes an efficient Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) powertrain.
Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic – Standard-wheelbase Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic combines heightened interior refinement with 565PS Supercharged V8 pace for a compelling mix of driver-focused performance, sophisticated luxury and all-terrain capability.
