Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu opens

Prince Hotels & Resorts and NTT Urban Development are proud to open The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu in Kyoto, Japan’s former capital city.

The name of the hotel is a blend of two distinctive elements; ‘Kyoto Kiyomizu’, an area steeped in Japanese history, and ‘Seiryu’, the name of the guardian deity who once protected the surrounding Higashiyama district.

This luxurious boutique hotel is a conversion of the once Kyoto Kiyomizu Elementary School, which opened in 1869 and played a huge role in Kyoto’s history and traditions. The classrooms have been transformed into 48 luxury rooms and suites that blend the original character of the building with contemporary interiors. Each room offers spectacular views of Kyoto’s historic landmarks from the Kiyomizu-dera, a revered Buddhist temple dedicated to the deity Kannon, to the Yasaka Pagoda, a picturesque five-story buddhist temple.

Enjoy the opulent onsite spa where three private baths embody a different aspect of Japan’s long-standing traditions. Kiyomizu’ meaning pure water in the colour of light blue, ‘Yamabato’ representing the yellow-green mountain bird, and ‘Sakura’ originating from the traditional Japanese pale pink cherry blossom.

Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu will also be home to the first international outpost of highly-acclaimed Michelin-Starred French restaurant, Benoit. Originally opened in Paris in 1912, Benoit Kyoto serves elegant French cuisine combined with traditional Japanese flavours.

Guests will also be able to enjoy stunning evening views of Kyoto from the hotel’s roof-top bar K36 The Rooftop and the main bar K36 The Bar with luxury champagne and contemporary cocktails for a fabulous evening under the stars.

Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu is located near many shrines, temples and historic landmarks for guests to explore the culture of the city. Just within walking distance guests can discover the Kiyomizu-dera Temple, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto’. Stroll along the Nene no Michi to enjoy the best of the cherry blossoms and autumn leaves.

Rates at the Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu for a standard room including breakfast begins at £522 per night (including taxes and service charge).
