Creator of the world's most expensive whiskey - Craft Irish Whiskey Co. - releases The Taoscán

One of the perks of being a journalist is that we are usually the first to know and learn about breaking events in all sectors. For us as Epicureans this includes an insight and exclusive access to some of the world's finest luxuries. And thus, we were invited to a very exclusive event at The Ned hosted by Jay Bradley, founder of The Craft Irish Whiskey Co., which is the most awarded new whiskey brand of 2021 and creator of the most expensive whiskey in the world. We were incredibly fortunate to sample the newest addition to their collection, The Taoscán.

The first of the company’s whiskeys to go on sale at exclusive London stores - The Taoscán is the world’s first and only tawny port and French chestnut finished whiskey. Just 1,000 collector edition bottles of this rare Single Malt whiskey from The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. are being made available to members of the public.

Triple distilled and triple casked, having been matured in American Oak Bourbon 200L for 11.5 years, then 500L Sherry Oloroso Butts for 18 months before being finished in Tawny Port and 225L Virgin French Chestnut for two years, The Taoscán is a whiskey of showstopping complexity and flavour.

In the coming weeks, three further ultra-rare releases from The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. will be available to purchase on request, including the company’s inaugural rare release whiskey, The Devil’s Keep, which broke records when a bottle sold for $60,000 USD at auction, making it the world's most expensive inaugural whiskey release ever sold. The Devil’s Keep was just recently named Best Irish Single Malt from The World Whiskies Awards.

The most show-stopping whiskey soon to arrive will be the company’s second release, The Emerald Isle, a seven-set collection and collaboration with jewellery house, Fabergé. Each of the seven collections of The Emerald Isle features a first-of-itskind, bespoke Fabergé Celtic Egg. Handcrafted from 18k yellow gold and adorned with Fabergé’s legendary guilloché enamel in pastel green, the unique Fabergé egg is set with a Celtic knot of pavé diamonds and opens to reveal an uncut emerald - an historic first for Fabergé. Also included is an 18k rose gold Fabergé watch, ultra-rare Cohiba Siglo VI Gran Reserva cigars, humidor and other luxurious whiskey accessories to elevate the whiskey experience.

The Emerald Isle became the world’s most expensive whiskey ever when it fetched $2million at auction in the US in 2021, overtaking The Macallan Fine and Rare 60-year-old which sold in 2019 for $1.9m. Just two sets remain.

Jay told us that the company has created; “What we believe is the perfect whiskey and probably one of the most complex whiskies I’ve ever had. It is close to perfection as any whiskey in any age range that you can get.”

He continued that: “It was perhaps better than our 30-year release as the taste notes appeal to everybody and possesses all the characteristics of a world class whiskey - an interesting effervescent spice on the tongue which gets rounded out very quickly with this ultra-creamy, ultra-smooth, viscosity that engulfs your whole mouth, it’s exquisite.”

Just 1,000 bottles of The Taoscán are being made available to the public at a RRP of £1,200.
