COMO brand's stunning Tuscan retreat - the COMO Castello Del Nero

Hidden amongst the rolling hills of Tuscany, COMO Castello Del Nero takes the form of a twelfth-century castle set within a historic 740-acre estate surrounded by quintessential Tuscan vistas.

Just as exquisite inside as it is out, the interiors blend Renaissance frescoes and contemporary design, conceived by esteemed designer Paola Navone. Located just outside the village of Tavarnelle Val de Pesca in Chianti, south of Florence and north of Siena, the estate is within easy driving distance of the two cities - with a free shuttle bus available to guests - making it the perfect base for those looking to explore central Italy and its copious offerings.

The 50-key property is COMO Hotels & Resorts’ first venture into continental Europe and guests won’t be stuck for things to do, with a heated outdoor pool, two tennis courts and trails threading through the estate and beyond for hiking and biking. For those looking to immerse themselves in Tuscan culture, there are authentic cookery lessons, seasonal truffle hunting, gelato making and wine & olive oil tastings in the 12-century cellar on offer. With tours of the vineyards, helicopter and balloon rides available to those wanting to head out and explore the region.

Three dining venues can be found on the estate, from the Michellin-starred La Torre, to the casually informal La Taverna – all of which carefully source local produce to create nourishing and flavoursome cuisine. And no COMO property would be complete without the COMO Shambhala Retreat, an elegant sanctuary where guests can treat themselves to indulgent massages, yoga sessions and Guinot facials, the perfect way to unwind after a day of Italian escapades.

Room rates start from £474 per night on a Bed & Breakfast basis.
